We are a family owned & operated business specialising in custom metal art for interior and exterior display.

Our family owned business grew from a shared passion for creating unique and eye catching metal art at an accessible price point. Established in the Illawarra, our business centres around working with clients to develop and produce their unique ideas while also producing ready-to-buy pieces that will add sophistication and create a point of difference to any space, both indoors and outdoors.

Adam

Adam drives the passion and enthusiasm of Ironbark Metal Design. He can generally be found either meeting with clients, behind the computer developing new patterns and handling administrative matters or in the workshop creating Ironbark’s next exciting project.

Megan

Megan is our creative genius! She has a lengthy and diverse career in creative art and has therefore been able to draw on these skills to create some of our beautiful patterns. Megan also overlooks administrative matters, meets with customers to measure & quote and collaborates with clients to develop their vision into a finished product.

Jack

Jack has a background in Auto Body Repairs and it is from here that his talent of working with metal has stemmed. His superior eye for detail and perfectionism results in every piece leaving our workshop, regardless of its size or complexity, being of the highest quality and something that we, and the customer, can be proud of.

Alanna

Alanna is our social media guru, running both our Facebook and Instagram pages as well as writing our Blog posts so that our Ironbark community is kept up to date with our projects, achievements and challenges.

Hans

Hans is a practicing artist with an Associate Diploma in the Arts, majoring in Sculpture and Ceramics. Hans has worked and studied under renowned Australian sculptor Bert Flugelman. Hans holds a boilermakers certificate and has over 25 years experience as a fabricating engineer. Hans experience includes Heavy industrial welding, aluminium cryogenics fabrications as well as stainless steel fabrication. Hans passion is sculpture and has travelled extensively in pursuit of this study.

Adam Cruickshank

Director – Ironbark Metal Design

Adam Cruickshank is a founding director of Ironbark Metal Design, bringing a unique blend of scientific insight, business acumen, and creative passion to the studio’s operations and long-term vision.

With a degree in Geological Science and Physical Geography, Adam’s early career was rooted in the sciences, where he developed a deep appreciation for natural forms, structure, and materiality-elements that continue to inform the aesthetic and environmental ethos of Ironbark’s design approach.

Adam is not only a strategic leader but also a passionate advocate for the arts, particularly in the context of place-making and design that responds to the Australian landscape. His personal love for gardening and the natural world fuels Ironbark’s commitment to creating pieces that harmonise with the environment and celebrate native Australian flora.

With extensive experience working with large corporations and multinational organisations, Adam brings a level of professionalism, foresight, and operational strength that is rare in the creative sector. His ability to navigate complex projects, manage stakeholder relationships, and guide long-term growth has been instrumental in Ironbark Metal Design’s continued success.

Adam’s leadership is grounded in collaboration, innovation, and a genuine passion for building things that matter-whether it’s a bespoke sculpture, a public art installation, or a lasting business legacy.

Megan Waud

Megan Waud

Megan Waud is an accomplished Australian artist and sculptor, renowned for her innovative metalwork that seamlessly merges artistic vision with technical expertise. As the owner and creative director of Ironbark Metal Design, she has built a reputation for creating distinctive sculptures and custom metal designs that captivate both public and private audiences.

Megan’s artistic journey began with a lifelong passion for drawing and watercolour painting. After co-founding Ironbark Metal Design, she began experimenting with sculpture, marking a pivotal evolution in her creative practice.

As the driving force behind Ironbark Metal Design, Megan’s original designs have been central to the studio’s success. Her visionary approach and dedication to craftsmanship have established the brand as a leading name in contemporary Australian art and design.

Among her most celebrated works is Banksia, a striking metal sculpture that earned the People’s Choice Award at the Arts in the Valley sculpture festival. This accolade highlights her ability to translate the essence of native Australian flora into compelling sculptural form. The piece was designed and crafted by Megan, with fabrication support from the Ironbark team.

In addition to her sculptural practice, Megan creates intricate design patterns inspired by native plants like the Waratah. These motifs are featured in privacy screens and functional art pieces, reflecting her commitment to integrating the natural world into everyday spaces.

Megan’s dedication to her craft and her innovative approach to metalwork continue to shape the Australian design landscape, earning her recognition and respect both locally and nationally.

Jack Walton

Jack Walton is a founding director of Ironbark Metal Design, and a vital force behind the workshop’s ongoing success. With a solid background in metal fabrication, panel beating, and motor mechanics, Jack brings deep technical expertise and hands-on problem-solving skills to every project the studio undertakes.

In addition to his practical experience, Jack is highly skilled in design work and CAD drawing, playing a crucial role in transforming creative ideas into buildable, beautifully executed works. His ability to bridge the gap between concept and construction ensures each project is engineered with precision, efficiency, and aesthetic integrity.

Jessica Cruickshank is the Marketing Manager at Ironbark Metal Design, where her creative direction and strategic thinking have played a key role in shaping the company’s public presence and ongoing growth.

With a Bachelor of Psychological Science & marketing from the University of Wollongong, Jessica brings a unique understanding of consumer behaviour and communication strategy to the Ironbark team. Her ability to translate complex ideas into engaging content has made her a driving force behind the company’s evolving brand identity.

Jessica has led the development and ongoing management of Ironbark’s website and online platforms, overseeing both the visual design and the technical functionality to ensure a seamless user experience. She has created a cohesive digital presence that showcases Ironbark’s portfolio, communicates the brand’s values, and connects with clients across Australia and beyond. In addition to her in-house work, Jessica also coordinates a network of third-party marketing specialists, guiding external creatives and consultants to ensure all brand communications remain consistent, strategic, and aligned with Ironbark’s vision.

In addition to her work on the website, Jessica manages Ironbark’s social media strategy, content creation, and community engagement across platforms. She pairs creative storytelling with data-driven marketing, regularly tracking analytics, measuring performance, and adjusting campaigns to maximise reach and impact.

Sculptor, Artist & Senior Fabricator – Ironbark Metal Design

Hans Rooland is a respected artist, sculptor, and Senior Fabricator at Ironbark Metal Design, bringing together a deep creative background with unparalleled technical ability. Originally trained in sculpture under the legendary artist / sculptor Bert Flugelman at the University of Wollongong, Hans developed a strong foundation in both conceptual and material practice—skills that now translate seamlessly into his work in large-scale fabrication.

Hans is endlessly experienced in all facets of metalwork and has built a reputation as a fast, precise welder, known for setting a high benchmark in the workshop. A natural perfectionist, he brings an intense level of detail and finesse to everything he builds, whether it’s a public art installation, intricate sculptural piece, or functional metal design. Senior Fabricator – Ironbark Metal Design

Geoffrey Robertson is a master craftsman with over 35 years of experience in metal fabrication, and a cornerstone of the production team at Ironbark Metal Design. Known for his precision, versatility, and unwavering attention to detail, Geoff plays a critical role in bringing the studio’s creative visions to life.

With particular expertise in aluminium welding, stainless steel work, and a wide range of metal forms, Geoff is a superior operator of metalworking equipment, capable of executing complex builds with efficiency and finesse. He is also a qualified mechanic, bringing an extra level of technical problem-solving and mechanical insight to the workshop floor.

His ability to interpret and realise intricate designs makes him not only a brilliant fabricator, but also a trusted installer who ensures that every project is delivered and installed with flawless accuracy.

Beyond his technical prowess, Geoff is a passionate amateur sculptor and woodworker, driven by a genuine love for making. His cross-disciplinary skills bring a unique depth to his work, and his curiosity and can-do attitude mean there’s nothing he won’t try or tackle.

Established in 2014 on the NSW South Coast, Ironbark Metal Design grew from a shared passion for creating unique and eye-catching metal art at an affordable price. Our business centres around collaborating with our clients to develop and produce their unique ideas while also creating quality ready-to-buy pieces that will add sophistication and a point of difference to any space.

All our products are designed and fabricated in-house at our Illawarra workshop. We use only the highest quality Australian steel to ensure durability and reliability for our products. We also work with a range of other locally sourced materials including, but not limited to, aluminium, stainless steel and copper.

With years of experience working with a wide variety of clientele from artists and architects, builders and landscapers as well government agencies, there’s no project too big or small for our team. We love a challenge and enjoy working on out-of-the-box projects.
